As HTML is a very popular file format, the need to display HTML and XML files in GUIs is increasing. Unfortunately, so far, in terms of capability, the existing Java API doesn't compete with what modern browsers have to offer. The goal of the Browser component org.jdesktop.jdic.browser is to provide a simple AWT component which enables Java applications and applets basic web browsing capability. The basic functionality includes creating browser windows, rendering web content, navigation, a basic history mechanism (back and forward), and progress notification.
